Bio of Don McNab – Founder & Owner of The Southgate Group
After working in the printing industry for 12 years, Don McNab decided to branch out and open his own printing company. In 1961, he said farewell to his current employer, pounded the pavement for customers, bought a printing press and started Southgate Press in the basement of his home in SeaTac. The hardest obstacle he remembers through the years was making it through economically when the Boeing Company had their big layoff. Rememer the phrase, “The last one out of Seattle, turn out the lights.”? All the printing orders came to a screeching halt. By that time, he had built his business up to 23 employees, and he found he had to lay off nine of them. After surviving that experience, he vowed to rebuild his business even stronger. In 1970, he bought the building on 1st Avenue South that is now the Southgate Group. His dedicated staff, by providing customer service, quality and responsiveness, have helped Don grow his business into the thriving, innovative provider of a full range of printing, mailing, and fulfillment services that it is today.
